Enameled cast iron wash basin. Approximately 20 inches x 12 inches oval.
Has 4 legs on bottom. Also has a 1 inch band that may be for a metal or wood stand. Enameled 1/2 outside, all inside. 2 easy seen gate marks.
No cracks and cast iron rings loud. Some chipping to enamel inside (see pics). Thomas and Clark Company in England pioneered enameled cookware and sanitary tubs in the 1700's.This may well have been a wash tub, rendering pot or similar. Nice large cast piece from England that came to America. Found at a old rural farmstead west of St.
Most likely cooked food, washed bottoms, rendered lard and grew plants since the Civil War. Few things last like good cast iron.
