Very Early Double Gate Marked 30 Gal - Cast Iron Cauldron, Cleaned & Finished To Near Mint! This is a Monster at 90 Lbs. Antique 1850s 30 Gal Cast Iron 3Lg DGM 26 CAMPFIRE COWBOY GYPSY KETTLE CAULDRON. 12 Detailed pictures for your viewing... Don't miss out on the highly detailed educational information, which I provide below...

This is one of the true old castings in Superior Condition, such as you will not find very often - It is loaded with character Inside & Outside from it's early heavy casting method. Monster 85 to 90 Lb Heavy... Early 1840s - 1850s Cast Iron 30G 3 Leg Cauldron.

Inside is Totally Clean & Oiled - Outer Surface Finished In 3 Coats Of High Heat 1200 degree Black. 1800s (Pre Civil War Casting). This is a Monster Casting at around 90Lbs Ready to Last a 2nd Lifetime. Heavy DOUBLE GATE MARKs - ANTIQUE LARGE CAST IRON CAULDRON / KETTLE - With 2 "Angular Curve" Handles, 3 TALL LEGS (see note below).

This baby sits perfectly level on a flat surface with 1 1/2 clearance above the floor. These very early cauldrons were not meant to sit with clearance above a flat surface. The original legs, being squatty and not long enough to extend beyond the belly of the beast were only cast as anti-roll over, or anti spill preventers.

Therefore, this cauldron has been professionally extended to sit flat with no wobble above a flat surface. The legs are perfectly suited for its size and solidness, and esthetic appearance. Very (older method) THICK CASTING - See the extremely Wide Double Flared Rim...

One of the heaviest Cauldron of this size I have seen... Double Gate Marks ON UNDERSIDE.. Also, which is unique and adds to it's character...

Are a few scattered small casting flaws (void) which was from a large air pocket, or irregularities in the surface. This is very common in the real old examples, and only verifies its age as well as adding rustic aged appearance. Originating from trapped pockets of air, or mold irregularities and these as they appear as cosmetic surface blemishes, do not affect the integrity of the piece at all. The pictures of the exterior show the actual 1200 degree heat resistant paint surface. Original Interior Surface is oiled for protection, and shows the early technology rough casting marks through-out.

You can see the surface of it's crude casting, and especially the very interesting aged pattern on the inside surface. There is some very minor roughtness on the upper inside rim in about 20% of the perimeter... (see pictures) from this at one time being left upside down on the ground. All cleaned now and rust free.

Bottom has some very minor pitting as well, but nothing that takes away from either it's usability or display properties, as well as its value. These larger pots are very sought after for a multitude of purpose, from simple display, to usage in cooking, and even making Kettle Corn at Fairs.

This baby is ready to do whatever you desire. This is educational, and applies to this piece: up a bit from the bottom, in a concentric ring, which is an indication of this being atleast a 2 part mold. Outside surface on itds belly, has a few natural casting flaws in the form of tiny voids (actual bubbles of trapped air as it was cast). All of this lends terrific age credibility to this piece. The casting is very thick, which accounts for its weight....

See the pictures, This is a more than just another "stew pot" for sure... A True Rustic Americana Antique. From inspection of the very rustic nature of the casting design with the heavy, thick double gate marks and inherent casting flaws. Of cast iron residue (around the lower circumference just before the belly) from the mold, This Cauldron can go all the way back to.

See the pictures; you will see the casting mold ring just a little bit up from the bottom... An indication that this is a very old method which has been employed. (even later pre-1890 examples) have complete concentric casting from the gate marks to the flared rim, with NO Circular Ring.

Mold ring, and of course.... And that factory casting flaw.

(and they are very LARGE). A very unique double flared rim (see pictures) and a. WIDE 1/2 top Rim Edge. A real prize for a serious collector wishing obtain the oldest example possible. REST ASSURED, IT'S CONDITION IS SUPERIOR TO WHAT OTHERS YOU WILL FIND.

IT IS ALL ORIGINAL, AND IN FANTASTIC CONDITION! See below about casting flaws.. >>>The V shaped straight bars on the underside. When the casting technology was improved afterward... So as to not have these pouring the sprue {liquid iron} was done thru the feet.

Real early kettles have variations in the casting (from the molds used), and very early Kettles dating back to the 1700s have other marks called sprue marks, and they are extremely rare. I still have many Cauldrons up to 45 gallons, and some are very old with Sprue Marks which will be offered in the near future, as my time permits. Message me if you want any info on these, or other cast pieces I may have. Double Gate Marks precede Single Gate Marks, however; other issues in the casting lead to discerning the age.

Casting flaws are an easy tell, and they are visible thru-out, but I must note that in this example... The only real issues with inherent flaws from the casting is inner surface slight bulging (where the liquid iron pressed into the sand mold as it was being poured). Which is not to be considered damage. Is that if you run your hand throughout the inside surface, you will feel light bulges here and there.... All par tof its character.

There are no indents, or voids, in this pot. The circular mold ring is also an indication of early casting, and is mostly left slightly rough. This is a very heavy and THICK pour. It weighs 85+ lbs, so this is a very serious antique casting. Very Rare & Superb Quality from the period.

A lot of history here. If only it could talk! 100% Original and has a rustic finish from age and use...

But NO DAMAGE, only very slight general pitting in the very bottom, which has mostly been removed. It is clean & ready for display or use immediately. Too big for me to season it in a chamber, but it will season as soon as you place it on a fire, with a coat of oil inside.

If you want to use it over a fire, it can be placed right upon an open fire... Or to hang it above, any welder in your area will sell you a steel rod, which they can bend to your requirements in moments, and they are very inexpensive. Also, a Circular 3 Legged Rim Mount ican be made by any welder for relatively little cost. As well, to go the whole gammit, you can have a tripod made to hang the Kettle from. All these accessories are merely general welding and not costly.

And for complete cauldrons as well, will make you realize this offering is a bargain. MEASURES APP: 26" DIAMETER (Not Including Handles), X 16" TALL, 14 1/2" Inside Depth - Rim is 1/2" Wide. WEIGHS: 90 LBS Estimate Unboxed. TOTALLY FOOD READY TO USE FOR COOKING.
