AN Antique Ozark Pioneer Vintage Large Cast Iron Cauldron Scalding Rendering Pot. Large Cast Iron Cauldron, Pioneer Kettle. From the Ozarks of southwestern Missouri.
Functional piece, water tight, no cracks, kept from freezing, and out of rain but needs re-seasoned. MISSOURI usually has 75-100% humidity, so keeping it rust free, (unless you use them), is impossible.
Lovely patina, great for cabin use, outdoors, ready for camping or a wonderful display piece. This pot will NOT sit on a flat surface, but has a rounded bottom, WITH 3 legs, but the pot is meant to sit in the concave of the coals, and the legs for steading it in the coals, or if hung over the fire by the loop. It WONT sit on a flat surface by itself unless the legs are propped. PIONEERS WERENT CONCERNED WITH DRIVEWAYS!!But it sits perfect in a 15 tire rim which is not shown but i i store it. Wonderful for home/kitchen use, home decor, outdoor decor, restaurants, BBQ, events, re enactments, theatre props, stage props, approx.
21 in diameter 13 3/4 tall approx. 50 lbs approx, with 4 (four) "gates" or cast lines on the bottom. Made and forged prior to labeling, so a true pioneer piece probably mid to late1800's.In my family for over 60 plus years, as my grandmother cooked down rendered pig fat for lard and soap in it back in the 1950's. I can and will attest to that with Provenance via handwritten letter, and a list of owners since then, and in my family.
