Crafted in Piqua, Ohio during the golden age of American cast iron, this Favorite Piqua Ware No. 12 skillet showcases everything collectors admire about the brand: an exceptionally fine, lightweight casting, beautifully machined silky-smooth cooking surface, crisp raised markings, and outstanding overall condition.

Measuring approximately 13 inches across while weighing just 6.6 pounds, it is noticeably lighter than many comparable No. 12 skillets, reflecting the refined craftsmanship that made Favorite one of America's premier foundries. Dead flat on a marble countertop, well seasoned, and ready for another century of service, this is a wonderful example equally suited for serious collectors and everyday cooks seeking heirloom-quality American cast iron. This is a Favorite Piqua Ware No. 12 cast iron skillet, made by the Favorite Stove & Range Company of Piqua, Ohio.

This is one of the nicest examples I've ever seen. This is after Favorite dropped their earlier "Miami" markings and before the company was absorbed by Chicago Hardware Foundry in the 1930s. Why collectors love Favorite Piqua Ware. Favorite never produced cookware in the same quantities as Griswold or Wagner.

Instead, they became known for. Among collectors, Favorite is often considered every bit the equal of Griswold. Many cooks actually prefer them because they heat quickly while still retaining enough mass for even cooking. This one is unusually light.

The fact that this comes in around 6.6 lbs tells me it received one of Favorite's thinner castings. More desirable to many collectors. The walls also appear quite uniform, another hallmark of Favorite quality. The machining is also excellent.

Just slightly thicker than a U. They were famous for producing cookware that felt refined rather than clunky.

Only one tiny patch of pin-prick casting dots (see finger point pics). Many collectors specifically seek Favorite because these surfaces rival-or even exceed-Griswold's mirror-like finish. Lays flat on a marble counter. Original casting lines still visible.

The small area of tiny casting pits on one side appears to be an original foundry imperfection rather than damage. This wasn't an everyday family skillet. 12 was a serious piece of cookware. It was commonly used for. Many households never bought one because they were expensive; Consequently, fewer survive today.
