Griswold #14 cast iron skillet with the large block logo and heat ring. This monster measures 16 1/2 inches across at the spouts and 2 1/2 inches tall. No problem feeding the whole crew with this guy : No cracks or chips.
Sits flat with no wobble or spinning. The outside surface is excellent with some very minor casting defects that can be seen in the pictures. The logo and lettering are nice and crisp.
The interior cooking surface is like glass! The original grinding marks can still be seen. Our restoration process first removes all buildup and contamination straight down to the bare iron. Then we apply ten layers of seasoning using only cold pressed organic flax seed oil.
Each layer of seasoning is baked on in a 450 degree oven for one hour. The entire process takes about a week to complete. The finished product is a skillet that is second to none. The cooking surface looks wet to the touch, but is clean, smooth and tough as nails. Here at Cast Iron Archaeology we believe that all vintage cast iron deserves to be restored to its former glory, whether it is in absolutely perfect condition and "sits flat on a glass surface" or if it has some warping or defects of some kind, but is perfectly usable.
We use the same thorough cleaning and seasoning process for all of our cookware whether perfect or not. This enables us to offer nice vintage and antique cookware to you whether you are looking for that one-of-a kind perfect piece, or if you are just starting out and would like a more affordable piece of cast iron that still has the rich history of its more perfect cousin.
We love nothing more than to bring a cast iron skillet that was looking like it was heading to the scrap heap back to near new condition. We guarantee the accuracy of our descriptions and the quality of the cookware we sell. Upon ordering we will carefully package the cookware so it has the safest journey possible on its way to you. If you have any questions or problems whatsoever, please feel free to message us.
Thank you for considering a product from Cast Iron Archaeology! Some as old as 120 years.
And they have seen much use. They will have utensil marks and small scrapes and nicks. We try to point out any significant abnormalities or damage in our listings. When it is stated that the skillet is flat, it means that there is no bow, wobble or spin. It is very rare that a vintage cast iron skillet will have absolutely no movement on a glass surface.
Most were not perfect coming out of the foundry. There will likely be some small amount of movement on a flat surface. If the skillet is absolutely perfect I will definitely point that out.
