Polished 10 Inch Lodge Cast Iron Skillet
Up for sale is a completely transformed modern Lodge cast iron skillet. If you love the heat retention of modern iron but miss the glass-smooth cooking surface of vintage Griswold or Wagner ware, this is the ultimate hybrid. The factory pebble texture has been entirely eradicated through a multi-stage mechanical and hand-refining process. The Restoration & Machining Process. The Prep: The factory seasoning was completely stripped to bare, raw iron on cooking surface. Progressive Grinding: The cooking surface was machined using carbide cuts, working progressively from a coarse 40 grit up to a ultra-fine 600. To prevent the "seasoning slip" common with overly slick polished iron, the surface was hand-sanded with lower grits between machine passes, creating teeth for the oil to lock into. Finished hand-sanded from 600 to 1500 grit, then machine-buffed using an industrial black metal compound, and finished with a Flitz polish on buffing wheel.
Pan was washed in denatured alcohol. The bare pan was given an acid wash to then clean-heated for a heat blue. Seasoned over the heat-blued for a near-bronze/black non-stick finish.
