This is the first Griswold cast iron French waffle iron that I have ever laid my hands upon. I want to call it "rare, " but think that "very very very very very very scarce" is probably more accurate. This French waffle iron was manufactured by the Griswold Mfg. The base measures 20" x 11".

There are three paddles with button hinges. I believe the wood handles to be original.

There is some chipping of the paint on the handles, as you can see. Some of the handles wiggle; this could be taken care of with some glue, but I will leave that to the new owner.

There is some pitting on the base that holds the irons, and the paddles have some imperfections in casting. The paddles are marked on one side with a raised star and GRISWOLD MFG. On the other side, they are marked FRENCH WAFFLE IRON and PAT'D JUNE 29, 1880. I took a lot of photos so that you can carefully examine this set. The set has been cleaned to bare iron and heat-seasoned with a mixture of Crisco vegetable shortening and Pam.

It is ready for use and display! Please carefully review the photos and description.

Thanks for stopping and shopping! About our cast iron pieces. We have many fine vintage and restored cast iron skillets, kettles, griddles, waffle irons, and pots and pans and this and that for sale here and there and elsewhere on the wild wild web.

We love taking these pieces with many years of history and giving them new life and new homes. We and our pans have been featured in "Southern Cast Iron" magazine (Fall 2016, Winter 2016 and Premiere issue, Fall 2015), "Taste of the South" (Jan/Feb 2015 cast iron issue), "Country Living" Nov. 2014, "Playboy" - that's right, Playboy! 2014, and "Sporting Life" (July 2013).

Griswold (Victor, ERIE, and Iron Mountain), Wagner, Wapak, Wagner, Vollrath, Martin, Favorite Piqua Ware, Birmingham Stove & Range, Lodge, and some for which the maker is unknown. We have an emphasis on Griswold pieces. We source fine vintage cast iron from across the country.

We then carefully clean each piece to bare iron - removing all rust and years of crud - using a multi-step process that often takes weeks to complete. After cleaning, we heat-season the piece in a two-step process with a light coat of Crisco vegetable shortening.

Unless otherwise noted in the listing, our pieces clean, seasoned, and ready for use and proud display. If you are interested in vintage cast iron cookware, you may wish to save us to your "favorite sellers" list and check out our other items.
