This is a wonderful old pre-Griswold Erie skillet in size 11. This one has the best seasoning on it from 10 years of use in my kitchen.
Actual kitchen seasoning is much more durable and rust resistant than several cycles of oil and 450 degrees in the oven. This is identified as pre-Griswold, because this is before the Griswold Manufacturing Company actually used their company name on their products.Erie cast iron skillets were the best of the era. These skillets were produced in 6 primary variations between the 1880s to about 1907. This particular skillet pattern 718 is from the 3rd Series before the Griswold marks were introduced, and was cast in only a couple of years, between from about 1892 to 1905. This skillet was completely cleaned to bare iron and de-rusted by electrolysis before becoming my go-to skillet.
The cooking surface has some light utensil scores and a few patches of etching from corrosion. Surface is still somewhat smooth to the touch.
