Vintage Pre Griswold ERIE No 7 Cast Iron Skillet 6 Dot Maker's Mark Ex Condition
This is a fine nice example of a pre Griswold ERIE No 7 cast iron skillet that dates from the 1880s. This 130+ year old skillet. Also carries the "six dot" markers mark. The cooking surface has very light utensil scores and hints of very fine etching from corrosion. These are undetectable as you glide your fingers over a glass smooth surface. It sits near flat with one. Sheets of printer paper slipped under one side of the pan to stop movement on a polished granite surface. No chips, cracks or repairs and does not spin. Test for flatness of skillet. With the skillet resting on a polished granite surface, press down all along the top rim searching for movement. If movement is found, slip pieces of printer paper under one edge of the until pot stops moving. This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for 1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color. Items are much darker under normal light.
